IBEW CCO represents thirteen IBEW Construction Local Unions across the Province of Ontario serving over 14,000 electricians, linemen and communication workers.
The IBEW CCO was established as a result of the Ontario Provincial Government's legislation institutionalizing province wide bargaining. Prior to the legislation, Locals independently negotiated agreements with their Contractors. By reducing the number of bargaining situtations (through province wide bargaining) a simpler context was established so that those involved could make the best possible agreement rather then being influenced by the outcome/status in other bargaining situations. Today, IBEW CCO and the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario (ECAO) have taken province wide bargaining one step further, in a strategy known as the 'Joint Proposal'. Before the expiry of the current principal agreement, the IBEW CCO mails out a letter to the members to ask for the continued support to renew the procedure of negotiating a collective agreement without a work stoppage. With a mandate from the membership to renew this procedure, both sides are allowed to bargain in a win-win climate.
